The River Charente and Channier are nearby ideal for birdwatch watching and fishing. You can quite often see lots of different wildlife, from the kingfishers and dippers to Coypu and if you are lucky Otters. There is a ferry across the river charente to chaniers were there are bars, restaurants as well as tradional food shops and a coop.

In the winter time the river charente bursts each bank almost every year and the bottom of our grounds can flood. This area between the bottom of the hill and the river is a natural flood plane and helps to makes sure that Saintes does not flood. As the wooded area floods lots of the wildlife comes up to the hill.
